Joint research project on non-communicable diseases (NCDs)

The AUN–HPN Secretariat and Osaka University collaborated to develop a proposal to the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) for funding into a joint research project on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The primary objective is to tackle the rise of NCDs (the current global public health issue) by addressing key modifiable risk factors, including tobacco, alcohol, physical activity, diet, and mental health, for better health and wellbeing of Asian populations.

The development proposal on prevention and control of NCDs will investigate the prevalence of tobacco and alcohol consumption, physical activity participation, dietary intake, and mental and reproductive health status in university students and staff. It also aims to develop appropriate interventions and promotions, and examine their effectiveness, along with strengthening the research capacity and networks amongst higher education institutes and providing evidence-informed policy recommendations.
